Taking a break…

I’m going to have to take a break from running the weekly accordion group for a while – I’m just too busy. So Monday 23rd May will be the last one. I’m hoping to start up again in September though, so please do email me if you would like to be on a mailing list so that I can let you know when I start again – joe@guzektrio.com.

Summer term…

I’m having a slightly extended Easter break, and the first Accordion Club for the summer term will be Monday April 23rd. It’s still at the Horfield Quaker Meeting House (see below for a picture…) and the times and price are all the same – see the Workshop page for full details. You don’t need to book and you don’t need to commit to a course, so if you’re interested, please do come along. You’re also welcome to email me if you have any questions – joe@guzektrio.com. See you on the 23rd!

Up and running!

Last night was the first night for my weekly accordion teaching group. I’m going to be at the Horfield Quaker Meeting House every Monday night in term time (300 Gloucester Rd, Bristol BS7 8PD). Here’s a picture of the building:

Come to the blue door and ring the doorbell on the right – there will be a sign saying ‘Accordion Club – ring this doorbell’…
I’m there from 7pm to 10pm; the idea is that the first part of the evening is for beginners and the second part for improvers. So the beginners teaching time will be 7.20 to 8.20 (you can arrive from 7.10 to unpack and say hello) then the improvers teaching time will be 8.40 to 9.40 (you can arrive at 8.30). Sessions cost £6 – if you’re not sure which one to come to, come to both for the same price!
Please do come along if you are interested. I hope that playing in a group will give people a chance to learn without the intensity, commitment and cost of one-to-one lessons. We’ll be doing left hand exercises, playing musical games to help improve your ear for a tune, building up bellows technique, working on confidence and performance and lots more. See you next Monday!

Welcome to the club!

Welcome! I’m going to be using this blog to give details of all my accordion teaching activities, and to post all kinds of interesting music and bits and bobs.

The other day I ran an accordion workshop at the wonderful Bristol Folkhouse. I was a bit nervous beforehand because I wanted to give people a really useful session, but I hadn’t run a four hour workshop for mixed abilities before. I assembled all kinds of ideas, pieces of music and so on, but I didn’t know how it would work out in practice. But it was great – people seemed to enjoy themselves and hopefully everyone came away having learned something.

The upshot is that I’ve decided to run a regular teaching group in Bristol. I will be doing two sessions, one for beginners and one for improvers – I define an improver as someone who can play a tune with both hands that has more than one chord in it… Full details are on the ‘workshops’ page. If you are interested in coming along please do get in touch.
